The Outburst About Anger and Acne | New Health and Fitness

New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

If you?re like ninety percent of acne sufferers out there, then you?ll probably have noticed that when there?s a big occasion, a big test, a date, a wedding or anything that you?re excited about, for some reason your acne flares up. Sods law right? Actually it?s more than just an annoying coincidence. Which leads us to yet another thing we should be aware of in the fight against acne: anxiety, stress and anger.

There are two types of anxiety and stress, and they are mental and physical. Mental stress will be fairly familiar to us all (we?ve all had it at some point), but physical stress can be a bit more tricky. Lack of sleep, over-exercising without adequate rest, even smoking cigarettes (oh, and lets not forget that big occasion) all put physical stress on your body. The reasons could be entirely different from one person to the next, but the point we?re making here is that anxiety, stress and anger do affect acne, however they?re caused.

So how does it affect acne? In short, whenever you feel stressed or anxious your body has a natural inflammatory response. We?ve all seen this in action when someone is stressed, angry or embarrassed (anxious) and they become red faced. Not every blocked pore is noticable, even in severe acne sufferers, in fact countless blocked pores go completely un-noticed. However, this natural inflammatory response makes it far more likely that these pores will become inflamed, which causes the wall to break, allowing an influx of bacteria to multiply, causing an acne flare up.

Now for the technical reason (in simple terms though). Our adrenal gland produces male hormones called androgens. These androgens can cause acne to worsen, but your body levels are usually regulated. Stress, anxiety and anger however, cause the adrenal gland to go into overdrive and release far higher levels of androgen. To be fair to nature, this did have its uses. We evolved with this response when we were in danger (think sabre tooth tigers) and were far more concerned with survival than skin care. Also, the arenal gland in women produces a much larger percentage of their androgens, which would explain why stress seems to affect acne in women more than men.

So what are the best ways to counter this? Remember that there are countless ways, so be creative and see what works for you, but here are some suggestions. There are four points of the body that release anger best, they are the hands, the feet, the voice and the teeth. You may have heard a story (or witnessed first hand) where two people have had a physical battle or loud disagreement, only to become lovers or best friends afterwards when all the anger is released. Now, the advice is certainly not to seek a confrontation of some kind, that?s not only poor advice, but it?s also poor for acne because it releases all those androgens anyway. The best advice is to find a way to release those negative emotions through the four channels. Be creative. I have heard cases were a persons acne has drastically improved not long after they began chopping wood on a daily basis. Sport is an excellent channel, so try football or baseball, even hitting a bunch of balls on a driving range can be great.

Also, don?t overlook the benefits that yoga and breathing exercises can have on your skin. Yoga could perhaps be the best treatment for this because not only does it release both mental and physical stress, but the benefits go far beyond relieving stress and anxiety. So perhaps try some local yoga classes, or if you don?t feel confident enough then try purchasing a yoga program to practice at home. There are countless techniques out there, so try some and see what works for you.

Best of luck,
